Adding Watermarks to AspDotNetStorefront Images

Have you worked hard photographing or scanning products for your online store, only to find the pictures on a competitor’s site?

AspDotNetStorefront has a built-in, easy to use way to add a watermark to all your products’ pictures.

Watermarking your pictures makes them less likely to be lifted from your site and AspDotNetStorefront lets you add a simple text message or copyright notice to your pictures. You can even set the placement on pictures where the watermark will appear.

You can find this AppConfig by going to the admin side of your website and selecting:

Configuration > Advanced > AppConfig Parameters in version 8.

Misc > AppConfig Parameters in version 7.

Search for “watermark” in the config search box.

To Add a Watermark

  1. Edit the AppConfig: Watermark.CopyrightText adding whatever text you prefer. In our example I just added “mysite.com.”
  2. Edit the AppConfig: Watermark.OffsetFromBottomPercentage
    1. First, decide how far from the bottom of the pictures you want the watermark.
    2. The edited text is in percentages, default is 10 (for 10 percent) in our example I chose 5.
  3. Edit the AppConfig: Watermark.Opacity you can choose 1.0 for fully visible to 0.0 for totally invisible. In our example I chose 0.7, but play with this until you think it looks right.
  4. Edit the AppConfig: Watermark.Enabled to be true

There you are finished! Every time you add an image, the watermark is added.

When working on watermarks, I open two windows. One window is for my admin, the other for the actual storefront. As I update the changes I refresh the actual storefront to see the change.

You may also want to play with these related AppConfig parameters:

* Watermark.CopyrightImage.Icon
* Watermark.CopyrightImage.Large
* Watermark.CopyrightImage.Medium

Do you have a watermark image? Post a link to your watermarked image in the comments below.
