AspDotNetStorefront’s Google Sitemap

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

AspDotNetStorefront has a built-in Google sitemap that not many people know about.

Google allows website owners to submit sitemaps via Google Webmaster Tools. Submitting a sitemap to Google helps ensure that Google knows about all the pages on your site.

The built-in AspDotNetStorefront Google sitemap is dynamic; it changes as you add new categories, topics, and products to your site.

To get to the Google sitemap, type “googleindex.aspx” onto the end of your URL: www.YOURSITE.com/googleindex.aspx

You should see a page that looks something like this: (more…)

Cart Page Configs – Adding Order Options

Monday, April 13th, 2009

AspDotNetStorefront store owners use Order Options to add items like gift wrap or a free catalog to their shopping cart page. Order Options can have their own price, icon image, and description.

And better still, Order Options are built into AspDotNetStorefront and a cinch to add to your cart.

Coder’s Corner – Extension Data, ADNSF’s Swiss Army Knife

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Out of the box, the Extension Data field isn’t used for anything, and the Xml packages don’t use this field unless you customize it in, so you may be wondering ‘what does it do?’

The quick answer? Anything you want it to!

This tutorial will show you how to use the Extension Data field to add additional information to your product detail pages. To complete this tutorial, you need access to your site’s Xml Packages folder, and a basic knowledge of HTML.

Coder’s Corner – Expand Product Details with Spec. Sheets

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

One of my favorite features in AspDotNetStorefront also happens to be one of the least used.

Many products in your eCommerce store may end up having extra long product descriptions, and sometimes, that may cause the user to have to scroll to read it all, or they may miss other valuable information on that page, or they may see the 10 mile long product description, decide they don’t feel like reading that much, and close the page altogether!

So, how do you keep your product detail pages short and sweet without losing all of that valuable information? Spec Sheets!

Spec sheets are great for storing additional information related to the product that there just isn’t room for on the page. This feature creates a link for you on the page that goes to a pop up window that contains your extra details. This can be a bullet list of product specifications, manufacturer content, warranty information, or anything else product related.

The page is even HTML, so you can put any text or images in here you like.

Dealing with Tabs in AspDotNetStorefront

Monday, December 29th, 2008

After installing a new skin and getting their site just how they imagined, many of our AspDotNetStorefront clients suddenly realize that the tabs on their account registration or checkout pages don’t look right and want to know how to change them.

Here’s what you need to know about those tabs:

1. The text and the tab background is a single graphic that is not editable in String Resources or with CSS. The only way to make the tab look any different is to directly edit the graphic.

2. Each tab is a .gif found in Skins/Skin_1/Images in your site’s root directory.  To find the specific tab you’re looking for, go to the front end of your site and right click on the tab, then either view Properties to see the filename or View Image to see the image filename in the browser’s address bar.
